UMG CEO Warns AI Music Uploads Outpace Platform Safeguards at 90,000+ Tracks Per Day

Universal Music Group CEO Sir Lucian Grainge used the company's quarterly earnings call to sound a fresh alarm about the scale of AI-generated music flooding streaming platforms. Citing figures from Deezer, he noted that more than 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks are being uploaded to streaming services every day — a volume he warned is growing faster than the content safeguards meant to manage it.
The remarks underscore mounting pressure on major labels and streaming platforms to address AI music at an infrastructure level, not just a policy one. For the music industry, the concern isn't only artistic — it's economic, as AI-generated content competes for algorithmic shelf space and royalty pools alongside human-made recordings.
