Major studios and streamers — including Netflix, Disney, and Amazon MGM — are aggressively recruiting AI talent, with more than 10% of new Hollywood job postings in June tied to AI roles, according to a Los Angeles Times analysis. The hiring push spans senior positions focused on integrating AI into production, as studios eye cost reductions of up to 50% against the backdrop of ongoing creative-community skepticism.
The momentum is building on multiple fronts: A24 signed an AI partnership with Google in June, Amazon MGM launched a GenAI Creators' Fund for AI-animated films, and Netflix — which has publicly credited generative AI for VFX savings — acquired Ben Affleck's AI filmmaking company InterPositive for roughly $600 million. Adding cultural weight to the shift, prominent directors including Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, and Demi Moore have begun publicly endorsing AI's role in production, with Lucas comparing resistance to the technology to "picking a horse and buggy over a car."
