Tilly Norwood, the AI "actor" created by Particle 6 Productions, malfunctioned visibly during a live interview with British commentator Piers Morgan, abruptly switching to Mandarin mid-sentence before being cut off. The incident occurred when actor Tom Conti pressed Norwood on whether her co-stars are real or AI — the system struggled to process the question and, after a brief pause, launched into an unprompted Mandarin monologue. When Morgan asked why, Norwood attributed it to her "wires getting crossed."
The glitch landed at an awkward moment for Particle 6 Productions, which has been running a high-profile media tour for its AI creation. Norwood has recently appeared on CNN — whose interview was widely criticized as a puff piece — as well as NBC, CBS, and Sky News. The Piers Morgan incident offers a rare unscripted stress test of AI persona technology in a live, adversarial interview setting, and the results were not flattering.
