All three major music groups — Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, and Warner Music Group — have taken equity stakes in Stability AI as part of a $76 million Series B funding round. The investor coalition also includes gaming giant Electronic Arts and chip-maker-backed AMD Ventures, among others.
The participation of the major labels signals a significant shift in how the music industry is positioning itself relative to generative AI: rather than standing solely in opposition through litigation, these companies are now buying into one of the sector's most prominent model developers. The move is likely to fuel speculation about future licensing arrangements and co-development of music and media AI capabilities.
