Amazon Prime Video has announced an AI-powered lip-sync feature that automatically reshapes actors' mouth movements to match dubbed audio tracks. The technology is currently available exclusively on the English dub of the German series "Maxton Hall," with the company signaling plans for a broader rollout to additional titles.

The launch raises significant questions about creative control, actor likeness, and platform overreach — including whether rightsholders will have input into how the feature is applied to their work. Amazon has previously experimented with AI-aided dubbing and AI-generated show recaps, but this new lip-sync capability marks a more visible and potentially controversial step. Vice President of Technology Raf Soltanovich framed the feature as a way to create "a more seamless and immersive" experience for global content, though Amazon has yet to release any demonstration footage of the technology in action.
