Warner Bros. Deletes Supergirl BTS Video After Apparent AI Concept Art Use Sparks Backlash

Warner Bros. has deleted a behind-the-scenes video for its 2026 film Supergirl after viewers spotted what appeared to be AI-generated concept art being used during production. The footage showed director Craig Gillespie and actor Jason Momoa reviewing character designs for Lobo on a laptop, with the imagery widely described as bearing hallmarks of generative AI — including a visible grid of iterated versions and on-the-fly customization. Warner Bros. removed the video after major film accounts including DiscussingFilm and Culture Crave began circulating clips of it.

The deletion backfired, drawing far greater attention to the incident in a textbook Streisand effect. The DC fanbase reacted sharply, with criticism centering on both the apparent use of AI in place of human concept artists and the perceived hypocrisy of quietly suppressing evidence of it. Some pointed out the particular irony of using generative AI to visualize Lobo, a comic book character with decades of existing artwork. There is no confirmed evidence that AI imagery appeared in the final film.
