Runway Launches Runway Dev, an API Platform for Generative Media Integration

Runway has introduced Runway Dev, a developer-facing API platform that consolidates image, video, audio, and real-time character models under a single integration. The platform includes first-party access to Runway's own frontier models — Gen-4.5, Aleph 2.0, and Act-Two — alongside third-party models such as Seedance, GPT Image 2, and ElevenLabs, with new models available on day zero and swappable via a single line of code. Early enterprise adopters include Adobe, Shutterstock, Figma Weave, Gamma, and Silverside.

Beyond raw model access, Runway Dev offers pre-built "Recipes" (packaged endpoints for use cases like ad localization, product swaps, and marketing stock images) and custom "Workflows" that chain multiple models into private API-triggered pipelines. A real-time Characters capability — interactive avatars with voice, tool-calling, and a knowledge base — is exclusive to the platform. Runway positions the offering as an enterprise-grade alternative to stitching together disparate APIs, and touts contractual commitments not to train on customer data alongside support for zero-data retention.
