Music rights company Round Hill Music has filed $1 billion copyright infringement lawsuits against AI music generation firms Suno and Anthropic, alleging both companies used copyrighted material without permission to train and build their commercial AI products. The suits mark one of the largest copyright actions yet taken against AI companies in the music space.
"There is simply nothing fair about a company using theft to build for purely commercial purposes a multi-billion dollar business while those from which they steal receive nothing," Round Hill stated in connection with the filings. The cases add to a growing wave of legal challenges from rights holders seeking compensation and clearer legal guardrails around how AI companies source training data.
