Ben Affleck founded InterPositive in 2022 after years of hands-on involvement in visual effects, machine learning, and GPU-driven workflows. Concerned that generic AI models lacked a filmmaker's understanding of image capture and production data, he built a proprietary dataset using cameras, LiDAR, and volume-stage equipment to create tools designed specifically for film and post-production. Netflix announced the acquisition of InterPositive in March 2026, with a regulatory filing later revealing the price at approximately $587 million in cash. Affleck joined as a senior adviser.
Affleck has been explicit that his goal is to keep creative decisions with artists rather than automate them away. Netflix's appeal as a buyer, he said, stemmed from its status as both a major studio and a guild signatory — a structural guarantee, in his view, that the technology would be developed in partnership with producers, artists, and craft workers rather than in opposition to them.
