Insta360 Luna Ultra: 1" 8K Gimbal Camera Co-Engineered with Leica Targets Mobile Filmmakers

Insta360 has launched the Luna Ultra, its first entry into the gimbal camera category, co-engineered with Leica. The flagship device features a dual-lens system pairing a Leica Summicron lens with a 1" 8K sensor and a secondary 1/1.3" telephoto lens offering up to 12× zoom (including 6× lossless). A detachable OLED touchscreen and AI-powered subject tracking round out a feature set aimed squarely at everyday creators and mobile filmmakers.

On the video side, Luna Ultra supports 8K30fps recording with Dolby Vision, 10-bit I-Log capture, and up to 14 stops of dynamic range — providing meaningful flexibility in post-production. For stills, the camera shoots 37MP UltraPhotos. Insta360 VP of Marketing and co-founder Max Richter described the launch as the company's bid to set "a new standard" for gimbal imaging defined by smarter technology and a more intuitive user experience.
