Character.AI has debuted c.ai Series, a slate of short-form animated microdramas made primarily with generative AI and designed for mobile viewing. The launch kicks off with three titles — Last Summer, The Nighttime Game, and Eden Fall — each comprising 10 episodes under two minutes long. The first eight episodes of each series are free to all users, with the final two behind a paywall. What distinguishes c.ai Series from rivals like ReelShort and DramaBox is an interactive layer: after watching an episode, viewers can chat directly with the characters.
The company says the initial batch was developed by an in-house, human-led studio team — including Hollywood screenwriters who wrote full story bibles — with AI handling visuals and audio through a proprietary agentic pipeline, assembled using traditional post-production software. CEO Karandeep Anand framed the move as a natural evolution of Character.AI's storytelling platform rather than a trend-chasing pivot, noting development on the first three series took only a few weeks. Looking ahead, Character.AI plans to open its AI production tools to outside creators to make their own original microdramas.
