Astana AI Film Festival Draws 8,067 Entries from 125 Countries, Competing for $2 Million in Prizes and Investment

The Astana International AI Film Festival has announced it received 8,067 submissions from filmmakers across 125 countries, with finalists set to screen in Kazakhstan's capital on October 1–3, 2026. The competition offers $1 million in prizes — $750,000 for the main thematic category, "The Future Worth Living In," and $250,000 across five open-category awards — alongside a separate $1 million investment fund backed by entrepreneur and investor Balaji Srinivasan, intended to help selected teams continue production in Kazakhstan and potentially join Astana Hub, the country's tech startup accelerator.

The scale of submissions points to rapid growth in AI-native filmmaking: organizers estimate entrants collectively spent over $4 million on more than 80 generative tools, across works spanning 19 genres and a combined runtime exceeding 100,000 minutes. The United States leads submissions by country, with Kazakhstan placing second. Notable entrants include AI production studio The DOR Brothers, director Zack London's Gossip Goblin, and festival-recognized creator Robert Gaudette. All entries undergo mandatory plagiarism screening before review.
