# xAI Sues Grok User for Generating CSAM Deepfakes While Facing Its Own Related Lawsuits

Elon Musk's xAI has filed suit in Texas against Terry Wayne Harwood, a 67-year-old South Carolina man arrested in March on multiple counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, alleging he used two Grok accounts to generate nonconsensual sexual deepfakes of women and children. According to the complaint, Harwood crafted prompts specifically to bypass Grok's safety guardrails, which the lawsuit concedes only partially blocked his requests.

The suit arrives in the middle of a deepening legal and reputational crisis for xAI over Grok-enabled CSAM. The company is simultaneously defending itself against a proposed class-action filed by Tennessee teenagers, an amended complaint alleging a man used Grok to produce more than 7,000 sexual deepfakes of his stepdaughter, and a suit by Ashley St. Clair after she was targeted by sexualized deepfakes. The Center for Countering Digital Hate estimated that over an 11-day period Grok generated roughly 3 million sexualized images, including approximately 23,000 depicting children — underscoring the scale of the guardrail failures at the center of all these cases.
