# Spotify Removed 75 Million AI Spam Tracks Last Year — Then Launched Its Own AI Song Summaries

_General · published 2026-07-19_

Spotify executive Sam Duboff recently confirmed the platform removed over 75 million "spammy" AI-generated tracks in the past year, describing AI as having "taken existing spam tactics to a new level." The flood of low-quality content has infiltrated algorithmic playlists, charted on music charts, and enabled AI impersonation of real artists — including deceased musicians.

At the same time, Spotify has been rolling out its own AI-powered features, and the contradiction is drawing fire. The company's "About the Song" feature — launched in beta in February 2026 to surface behind-the-scenes details about tracks — generated inaccurate descriptions of songs, prompting singer Lorde to publicly call out the platform, saying the feature was "not only inaccurate" but that "reducing a song to an AI-generated meaning right at the source feels like it limits free interpretation."
