# Inside Qidian Interactive: How Chinese AI Studios Are Producing 4–5 Films Per Day

_Research · published 2026-10-01_

Chinese AI video studio Qidian Interactive, based in Wuxi, has been releasing 4–5 short films daily since June — each comprising 30 to 44 episodes — using a proprietary platform called Yudian. Built in just one month by Technical Director Chen Hao and his team, Yudian automates the full production pipeline: surfacing trending storylines, writing dialogue, generating scene scripts, placing characters and objects in 3D space, and evaluating whether an ending has enough dramatic pull to retain viewers. Teams of just one to two people handle each stage — character and background creation, filming, and editing — with a senior lead reviewing the whole.

The studio is a microcosm of a much larger shift: according to the report, 95% of China's 128,000 short films produced in Q1 2026 were AI-assisted. Many of Yudian's creators came from traditional disciplines — lighting, animation, set design, cinematography — and their craft knowledge is now embedded directly into the tool's workflows and presets. The throughput comes at a human cost that Chen Hao himself acknowledges: "I don't like AI, but I'm forced to use it," he said, noting that a single click can sometimes outperform two or three days of skilled manual work.
