# Asia International Youth Film Festival Launches AI Section, Awards Feature-Length AI Film

The Asia International Youth Film Festival concluded its fifth edition with an awards ceremony at Asia Television in Hong Kong, marking a milestone by introducing its first dedicated AI section. The Best AI Film award went to "Hot-Blooded Dachen Island," a 120-minute feature based on the true story of land reclamation on Dachen Island in Zhejiang province — described as one of China's first feature-length online films to use AI-generated imagery for human characters. Its screenwriter, Chen Zhengming, also took home the Best New Screenwriter award.

Festival founder and veteran filmmaker Shan Zhidan, who also serves as secretary-general of the Asian Filmmakers Association, framed the new section as a call to prioritize storytelling over spectacle. He expressed hope that the AI category would encourage young filmmakers globally to remain committed to "telling good stories" even as generative tools rapidly transform the craft.
